Public Witness: Supporting Immigrant Detainees

Sunday, August 30 10:15 AM
North Indy

On August 30, St. Luke's is standing with Hoosiers across Indiana to rise in a powerful, unified public witness to end the crisis of ICE detention at Miami Correctional Facility.

Indiana is currently holding approximately 800 immigrant men—the vast majority of whom have no criminal record—inside a state-run, maximum-security prison plagued by a staffing shortage, lack of medical care, and a tragic record of two detainee deaths earlier this year. Because Miami Correctional is a state-run facility, this injustice belongs to every Hoosier.

This work is in alignment with recent INUMC resolutions and with our social principles, and is supported by our governing board, United Women in Faith, and Social Justice committees. Please join us in solidarity in front of our North Indy campus anytime between 10:15-12:15, wearing a St. Luke's tshirt. A short program will take place between 10:40-11:00.
